 Staff of The Birding Shop

Charles Sandbrink - Managing Director
An avid photographer, with over 1300 avian-related slides in his slide library, Charles is a keen user of everything optical: bins, scopes, cameras and other expensive stuff that none of the rest of us know how to identify - let alone use.

Charles worked for 30 years as an engineer before 'retiring' to manage the Bird Shop for Birds Australia which has evolved into the privately owned enterprise known as The Birding Shop.  His leisure hours are spent birding - either at Rushworth in Central Victoria as part of the Rushworth Bird Banding Project or at his property bordering the beautiful Little Desert National Park in North West Victoria he purchased with his wife, Joan, in early 2000. Corporate Support
The Birding Shop is proud to have the opportunity to support the Threatened Bird Network (TBN) of Birds Australia. The TBN links volunteers with urgent recovery actions on Australia's threatened birds. In the years 1996-2000, it has been estimated that TBN volunteers contributed $3.2 million to recovery efforts - and the number of volunteers participating is growing year by year. The network services recovery efforts on 24 species, with activities in all states and territories. Presentations and skills workshops are held regularly.

Volunteer activities range from banding and radio-tracking, counting and surveying to fencing and planting. From the remote south-west corner of Tasmania to the tropical clines of the Northern Territory, TBN volunteers donate their time, energy and expertise for Australia's bird heritage. There are also many administrative tasks that volunteers perform, such as data entry and newsletter preparation.

Volunteers register themselves with TBN and receive a newsletter describing up and coming activities and events. Once registered, the volunteers can also access the TBN referral service by simply contacting the TBN office. Internet-based volunteering has become the main source of TBN volunteers, and the TBN web site has had a major upgrade so that volunteers with access to the Internet can log on, and point and click on the species map to see what activities are available. It is free to register with TBN.

Contact: Chris Tzaros, 2-05 Leicester Street, Carlton, Victoria 3053 Ph: 03 9347-0757, Web site: Click on the Birds Australia logo below, and follow the links to the TBN page. The TBN is funded by the Natural Heritage Trust.
